Cricket News - Oulton indoor league

A big well done to the Year 4/5 cricket team who overcame a very strong Lady Elizabeth Hastings (LEH) school (including Year 6 players!!) by a narrow 2 run margin!!

The game was tight all the way through and both teams were scoring runs with some super technical shots looking for the gaps between the fielders in the sports hall (which is a difficult task!). LEH school scored plenty of runs but Methley were a more disciplined side and their strength was shown in the field. The scoring system meant that for every person that was given out the team would lose 5 runs. This system was to Methley's advantage as they held on to many magnificent catches and through some super bowling managed to clean bowl a few of their players! This resulted in a lot of LEH runs being cancelled out.

Both teams played a great game and it was good to see a lot of smiles and handshakes at the end of the game between both teams!

Methley were due to play Swillington in the next league game on 5th March, however the game was cancelled (at short notice) due to the hall being used for exams. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents & grandparents of all the children who offered transport for the trip. I apologise if the late cancellation caused you any inconvenience! I will keep you posted with the new fixture date.

New Year

Welcome back to the blog!

Things have been a bit quiet on here this year due to a certain lack of time in my home life (Thanks to my 7 week old daughter Niamh). Just a quick one to say there is a football friendly against Woodlesford on October 15th at Methley. If your child has been selected to play for the team they will receive a letter over the coming week. It is a chance for us to get revenge after they beat us in the Rothwell Cup Final last year!!
Also there is an athletics tournament coming up next month so if you are keen please come along to Mrs Reynard's athletics club on a Tues after school to try & get in the team!

Rothwell Charity Cup Final

Just to let you know that Methley's year 5/6 football team have had a super year and to top things off they have got all the way to the Rothwell cup final. It will take place on Thursday 9th July against Woodlesford and will be held at Woodlesford's school. A big well done to all the footballers that have trained so hard for this event and a big thanks to all parents for their help and support throughout the year (especially with transport!!)

Football Update

As you may know Methley are through to the semi-finals of the charity cup. They will be playing Rothwell C of E away on Weds 17th June. Letters will be sent out to the players later this week.

Super swimmers & Fantastic footballers!

A big well done to all the Year 3/4 & 5 swimmers that took part in the Kippax swimming gala 2 weeks ago! It was our first ever swimming competition that we have entered and all the swimmers put in a super effort to make it a very enjoyable event!
To top it all off we managed to win the event overall and our advanced team also won the water polo competition! I'll be looking to enter the event again next year & possibly look for other swimming galas held at other pools! (Watch this space....)

To add to the successes of the swimmers our footballers also carried on the winning habit with a fine victory over Rothwell Primary School in the Charity Cup. After a tense game which finished 2-2 after normal time I am pleased to see that the strength of our players carried us over the finish line with 2 goals in extra-time completing a 4-2 victory at the final whistle.

Well done to all the swimmers & footballers and I look forward to a busy week next week with Year 3/4 football games against Rothwell Victoria on Tues, entering the Yorkshire Cricket Board organised Drax cup on Weds, and the yearly cross-country event at Woodlesford on Friday!

Boys Futsal Tournament

Hi to you all!!

We took 2 teams to Brigshaw high school this month to take part in the annual Futsal tournament (like the girls took part in last month). I am over the moon to announce that both teams won their respective leagues and got through to the semi finals! The good news doesn't end there as they both won their semi-finals & this resulted in an all Methley final!!!
The final was an interesting affair with all players playing their hearts out! The final score was 2-1 to Methley A team.
The result was an outstanding achievement and all the boys that took part should be extremely proud of themselves.
